It’s the last week of the #ScienceSummit at #UNGA78 (12- 29 September 2023), here in NYC. I missed most of the programming from the earlier part, due in part to Climate Week last week, but thankfully I got to participate a bit. Here’s some highlights from my experience: 1️⃣ On the 14th, though not an official Science Summit event, The New York Academy of Sciences hosted a social & open house at its new HQ, with a panel on “The Future of Science.” You can watch the panel replay here: https://lnkd.in/eg-4x7Kt I also joined NYAS, and the NYAS led International Science Reserve’s virtual session for the Science Summit last Friday. 2️⃣ I also enjoyed a virtual session for the Science Summit this Monday (9/25) on “Science capacity building for the future: defining the Skills Agenda,” with various presenters from around the globe. Some of the key “must-have skills,” as mentioned by Larisa K. Schelkin, CEO of Global STEM Education Center, include: — Interdisciplinary Knowledge — Cross-Cultural Competence — Communication Skills — Data Literacy — Adaptability and Resilience 3️⃣ The remaining pictures are from 26 Sept’s Day 1 of The ECHAlliance The Global Health Connector Event @ UNGA78 (European Connected Health Alliance). It was organized across 3 topics, some of which sessions I attended on-line and later in person: — Data & Digital — Healthy Aging — Green Health There were many excellent presenters curated by the ECHAlliance. Being able to hear people talk about both the SDGs, science, health, medicine, technology, business & industry, plus scopes 1, 2, 3, under the same umbrella, and in a human centric manner — was so refreshing. As we wrap up the calendar year and find ourselves in the middle of the academic year, it’s time to bid farewell to 2023: This past year brought global challenges, testing the resilience of universities worldwide. In the face of crises and ethical dilemmas, institutions had to adapt, progress, and ensure academic vitality. We are proud to share that we at E-Quadrat Science & Education played a role in assisting universities, spanning from Switzerland to Uzbekistan. We collaborated on launching excellence programs, steering transnational education initiatives, providing strategic guidance, and aiding in the initiation of Sustainable Development Goals. Learning from our collaborations, it's inspiring to witness universities committing to systemic transformations to better serve their stakeholders and society. It's a testament to how collective efforts can drive fundamental change, confronting the unacceptable and challenging what isn't working. Recognizing that people are the cornerstone of any organisation, we also want to welcome new team members (including Maria Yudkevich and Prof. Dr. Olgun Cicek) who join us this year and say a huge thank you to all members of the team for their hard work! In the coming year, we aspire to contribute modestly to the collective effort of making 2024 a more promising time for educators striving to transform universities and impact societies. Universities remain beacons of hope in turbulent times and our goal is to foster a community where we can collectively shape the agenda by inviting dedicated and inspiring speakers to do free webinars for you, analyzing cases, and sharing best practices — a collaborative approach to navigating the ever-evolving world while preserving the traditions integral to higher education. You hear it often, the word "inclusivity". But what does that really mean?  That's exactly what Naima El Jaouhari and Guus Frericks talk about in this new video from "More than a job in tech". She is still new to the region and he knows the ecosystem like the back of his hand. Together, these two strangers to each other, discuss what inclusivity means to them and how welcome they feel in the Brainport region. And even though Naima and Guus may not have known each other before this video series, during the conversation they discovered that they have a lot in common. Brainport Eindhoven is more than a job in engineering.
